Do your Qualify?

Eligibility For Borrowers
  • Must have a RISLA Student Loan or a RISLA Parent Loan on behalf of the student
  • Loan must be issued on or after July 1, 2011

Eligibility For Students

  • Must graduate and become a licensed registered nurse 

  • Must complete registration and questions within the same month to qualify

Employment Requirements
  • Employed by a licensed healthcare facility in Rhode Island
  • Work at least 20 hours per week
  • The role must involve direct patient care

How Internship Rewards Work

Step 1

Complete an Eligible Internship

Finish either one 3-credit internship or three 1-credit internships that meet program requirements.

Step 2

Apply After Graduation

Submit your application to RISLA within one year of graduating.

Step 3

Get Approved

If eligible, receive up to $2,000 in principal loan reduction on your RISLA loan.

Lower Your Principal Balance

Your award is applied directly to your outstanding loan balance—helping you pay it down faster. 

Internship Rewards Eligibility

Do You Qualify for $2,000 in Loan Reduction?

Eligibility For Students
  • Must complete one 3-credit internship OR three 1-credit internships
  • Internships must be transcript-listed, validated, and certified by a college or university
  • Can be paid or unpaid and completed in Rhode Island or out-of-state
  • Must be a Rhode Island resident OR attend a Rhode Island college/university

Important Requirements
  • An internship cannot be required for graduation
  • The reward is granted after graduation only
  • Must apply within one year of graduation
  • The award can only be used once per student
  • Applied to a single RISLA Student Loan, Graduate Loan, or Parent Loan
